Matcha is powdered green tea that includes the whole leaf, ground into a very fine powder that resembles an emerald colored flour. Because the leaves themselves are consumed, brewed Matcha contains higher concentrations of vitamins, antioxidants and caffeine than other teas. Matcha green tea is available on the market in a variety of grades, from cooking grade to the very highest ceremonial grade. This particular grade of matcha is moderately priced for everyday enjoyment, whether whisked traditionally in a matcha bowl, or infused into shakes and smoothies to provide a boost of vegetal antioxidants.
Matcha is produced using leaves that have been shaded the final weeks before plucking in order to boost chlorophyll production in the tea plant, lending it a more vibrant green colour once harvested. This shaded growth is also the reason matcha green tea is higher in nutrients such as antioxidants, theanine and caffeine, than its unshaded counterparts.
beTeas has a selection of Matcha wares available, including Match bowls, whisks and scoops; but Matcha can also be competently whisked with common kitchen utensils and tea ware, or scooped into bottled water for nature’s healthiest energy drink (just shake well and go!).
