Tieguanyin oolong (a.k.a. “Iron Goddess of Mercy”) is one of the most famous teas from China. While the most common tieguanyin is semi-balled, light and fragrant, many farms are now moving to more traditional processing methods, like this one; with ‘frog leg’ leaf shape, longer oxidized and intentionally roasted, resulting in a more intensely floral and nutty experience. We’re delighted to offer this exceptional, traditional tieguanyin grown from the region’s most desirable “red heart” cultivar. This leaf is exceptionally manufactured and can be enjoyed in many, short infusions, making it a beautiful value as well as the one of the best oolongs you’ll ever try!
Origin: Anxi County, Fujian Province China (Butong Mountain)
Elevation: ~2500 ft
Our selection hails from the Butong Mountain area in Anxi, cultivated with love by the Chen family, descended from multi-generational tea masters. They’ve consciously laboured to employ strictly traditional methods and organic farming practices, which they believe is the only way to keep the land sustainable and consistently produce the best quality leaf. Simply put, Mr. Chen shares with me that his goal is to produce “the best tieguanyin in the world”. We’ve sourced this beautiful tea directly, bringing you the opportunity to enjoy a very high quality tieguanyin otherwise scarcely available in the west. Our hope is, we can continue to do so for years to come.
NOTE (re: aging): Tea lovers should be aware that quality aged oolongs are a prized comodity and increase in value congruent to their increase in complexity; therefore, if stored well, this exceptional quality tea is one you can enjoy over time without worry of it losing quality. To store well, keep in a well-sealed, air tight container, away from light, heat and moisture.
