This natural fermented Pu’er tea was handcrafted in Yunnan Province, the birth place of tea in the world. The leaves have been naturally fermented into the small pieces (only about 1.5% of the loose tea in one pile of tea can be formed into small pieces), which is an ideal fermentation level for Shou Puer or Fermented Pu’er.
Collected from the old, tall Pu’er tea trees, these leaves lend greater “chi”; this is said to make the tea very long lasting, smooth and milky, more so than teas made from younger trees.
History tells the story that pu’er teas were delivered to the Imperial Court and to the rest of the world on horse back, travelling thousands of miles on the “Ancient Tea Horse Road”, and thus spreading tea culture to rest of the world.
Like fine wines, pu-erhs deepen and improve with age and should be savored. Due to their probiotic content, pu-erhs make excellent digestives, and are very supportive after a heavy protein or fatty meal. The earthy flavour pairs well with chocolate, desserts, and also compliments mushroom dishes.
