This unique, premium oolong is coated in ginseng powder, hand rolled and dry roasted. It is a popular Chinese tonic, as combining oolong with the longevity herb, ginseng, produces a vibrant health and energy drink. Each sip leaves a surprisingly sweet finish that lingers at play with the smooth oolong taste. Be sure to give this oolong a very quick rinse, and steep multiple times for short steeps, and revel in a different experience each time!
Ginseng Oolong is largely responsible for my falling in love with tea, and sealed my journey into this wonderful life long passion. Very early in my tea journey, I happened upon the Chinese Cultural Centre in Halifax as a tourist, and decided to stay for a while. I chose this tea from their menu as I had not heard of it before. The knowledgeable shop owner was a fascinating Chinese woman who graciously complimented my choice, and shared that according to some legend, Ginseng Oolong was a favourite tea of the Empress Dowager. Upon my first sip I was transported to heaven! I have been in pursuit of a Ginseng Oolong as good as my “first love” for quite some time. At last, I’m very pleased to share this excellent one from Jin Xi tea garden in Anxi County, Fujian province.
May I recommend that you consider Eastern style steeping to get the maximum enjoyment out of this lovely leaf – use 3 grams of tea per 150ml of water and short steeps (about a minute), enjoying multiple steeps. Brew Ginseng Oolong when you can take some time to sit and enjoy it and not when you are rushing about – it will produce the most perfect “be” moment if you do, and provide the energy to work vibrantly when finished!
