This wonderful organic Lapsang has the delicious oak and pine fire aroma and taste desirable in this traditional Chinese scented black tea. A great choice if you enjoy bold and smokey black tea, or awesome as a culinary tea to infuse into dips and spice rubs.
To produce the classic smokey character, freshly picked tea from Fujian province is withered over pine or cedar fires, pan-fired, and then rolled by hand. Once rolled, the leaves are pressed into wooden barrels and covered with cloth where it sits until the tea master feels the tea has achieved the desired aroma. Then the leaves are rolled again, formed into tight strips and placed into bamboo baskets which are hung over burning pine boughs to further develop the signature, intense smokey flavour of this classic tea.
Fun Fact: Lapsang Souchong was a favourite tea of British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, as well as Boris Pasternak, famed author of the Russian tale, Dr. Zhivago. Cuddling up with this smokey brew will conjure images of warm campfires and starry nights, historic tales of caravans or maybe even cowboys!
